Premium Vintage: A Designer’s Real-World Review
What Designers Need to Test — Before Committing
- Test it in black and white only — no color tricks hiding weak contrast or uneven stroke weight.
- Check small-size readability: set “Est. 2018” at 10pt on a mockup label. If the ‘8’ blurs into the ‘2’, adjust spacing or reconsider usage context.
- Try real mockups: place it on a wine bottle label, a Shopify product card, and an Instagram Story. Does it feel native — or like a guest who hasn’t unpacked?
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase: Premium Vintage’s all-caps setting has tighter default kerning, but some pairs (like “AV” or “To”) need manual nudge. Its lowercase flow is richer — lean into it for warmth.
- Review spacing across weights: Script Amp included Light, Regular, and Bold — but the Bold isn’t just thicker; it’s bolder in presence. Use it for impact, not substitution.
- Pair it deliberately: beside a sturdy serif font (for tradition), a clean sans serif (for balance), another script font (for contrast — not competition), a handwritten font (to avoid visual noise), and a geometric display font (to test tonal range).
